本作は、2018年に放送された連続ドラマ「シグナル 長期未解決事件捜査班」の続編。3年ぶりの新作となる今作でも、現在を生きる刑事?三枝健人を坂口が、謎の無線機でつながる“過去”の熱血刑事?大山剛志を北村一輝が演じる。本作では、原作の韓国ドラマ「シグナル」でも特に人気が高いストーリーを映像化。2018年版の最終話直後から物語がスタートし、それから2年後の2020年に、「20年前に自殺したはずの恋人を探してほしい」という男の依頼を受け2人がある事件を追っていく。
